ABOUT
I’m Thami Amaral, a Brazilian artist and graphic designer currently based in New York City. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, I spent six years living in Argentina and have been abroad for over a decade. These experiences have deeply shaped my worldview, making me globally connected, culturally engaged, and endlessly inspired by the people I meet, their stories, and their creative expressions. I speak Portuguese, Spanish, English, and a bit of French, and thrive in multicultural environments where dialogue and diversity fuel the creative process.
My work blends art and design to create vibrant, story-driven visuals, ranging from bold illustrations and colorful compositions to dynamic collages and painting. I draw inspiration from diverse cultural experiences and historic references to craft visuals that captivate and connect. Expression and human connection are central to my creative approach. I've led a feminist book club focused on powerful literature and collective reflection, and I currently co-host Fulana & Ciclana, a Spotify podcast for a Brazilian audience where my friend and I explore society and culture through honest and engaging conversations.
I’ve been painting since childhood, it was my first language of self-expression and remains one of the most meaningful ways I connect with the world. Over time, my painting practice has evolved into a thoughtful blend of intuition, observation, and symbolism. I often incorporate textures to invite a tactile, sensory experience beyond the visual, and use symbolic elements to explore layered narratives where imagination and reality meet. For me, painting and graphic design are not just about creating images, it’s about evoking emotion, telling stories, and offering space for connection and interpretation.
